Portraits,

forever in our hearts

From idea to canvas...

As an artist, I can bring an idea to life, using colors and shapes using the technique of oil painting on canvas. My sources of inspiration are numerous. I especially like portraiture: translating expressions into two dimensions. What do our faces say about who we are? What emotions are we able to perceive? Whose faces do we want to remember?

I discover...

Copies from the Old

The Masters within your reach...

My sources of inspiration are inseparable from the relationship with the past and the creation of the Masters. This approach allows us to understand that the art of copying was the foundation of learning, and not a disqualifying exercise. Working on the copy is the practice of training in painting, meticulous and manic, which requires time. The moments of the Past and the Present combine, the reflections are mixed: they invite us to turn towards these artists, to interfere in their environment and their daily lives, to grasp their motivations and to understand their culture and their intentions. The copies, from French art, Italian or Dutch art, etc., even if they seek to get closer to the original works of past times, deviate from them by the format, by the supports and materials used ( modern frames, natural and synthetic pigments).

"Re-creations"

It is no longer quite a question of making “copies”, even if the technique is still that of oil painting and if the format differs from the originals. This approach rather attempts here to study the processes implemented by artists of past centuries, processes which are documented in ancient printed or handwritten sources. It therefore involves turning to the written or material heritage left by the History of art, as well as to recent discoveries made by materials sciences.

This process includes the preparation of the supports (wood, copper, hemp or linen canvas), their gluing, the application of the preparations, the choice of natural pigments, the drawing and its transfer, the application of the pictorial layers. This particular process is long, both in terms of research and implementation.
