Preparation for the Swiss Art Expo in Zurich
Lately, I have been working on two large-format frames: 120 x 80. I bought them already prepared, and of good quality, that is to say, on a wooden mount "from the Landes forests", a 100% linen canvas, prepared with two layers of hide glue and two layers of coating. The common theme is the large portrait... on one side, the portrait of a man in the prime of life, full of vigor. I named it Energy Time . What a spirited model! On the other, a bird, and by any means... the Great Potoo. A delicious memory that brought me back to watching the film The Party . It could not have been called anything other than Birdie Nam Nam . I like titles in English, in that beautiful literary English from the Shakespearean era. It is an artist's choice, to be respected... . However, I readily admit that it is not always satisfactory. Some titles are more explicit in French. Birdie Nam Nam is complicated to paint. It is a nocturnal bird adept at natural mimicry in broad daylight; between the feathers and veins of the tree damaged by time, the clinging moss and the lichen with faded hues, the gesture is lost and deviates, the brush trembles. The lines must be extremely precise, too much so.
