The workshops of Phi-Artiste-Peintre

PHILOKALOS offers you a unique workshop experience, combining the discovery of art history with learning the technique of oil painting.

In small groups, benefit from personalised guidance, learn the patience and meticulousness required for the oil painting technique, develop a new concentration and discover the materials and supports for creation, while familiarising yourself with the skills of the old masters. PHILOKALOS offers you an immersion in the life and culture of the artists who lived in past centuries. Understanding their intentions, their daily lives, their work in the studio and their sources of inspiration gives painting a whole new dimension.

All year round, we offer 12, 16, 24 and 32 hour sessions, as well as 5-day courses (20 or 40 hour sessions). The fee is €30/hour and includes the supply of materials. Participants' work can be exhibited (quotation required).


Art history courses and lectures with Phi-Artiste-Peintre

Phi-Artiste-Peintre invites you to discover the riches of art history through a series of fascinating courses.

Explore existence and sensibility under the Ancien Régime, analysing the relationship between the body and being in painting. Immerse yourself in the works of Italian and Northern European artists, and explore the ancient texts of their artistic practice.

Develop your knowledge of artistic anatomy through modern painting and sculpture, and be surprised by the art of ancient anatomical waxwork. Study representations of undone bodies in art from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries, as well as otherness in ancient painting.

Phi-Artiste-Peintre also invites you to familiarise yourself with devotional practices and artistic creation, for example in 17th-century Spanish sculpture; or to take a closer look at mummies in France under the Ancien Régime. Learn how artists tamed death in the 16th and 17th centuries, and the role that artistic representations played in this process.

Finally, explore the origins of the tea ceremony in the China of the scholars and Buddhist monks of the Song dynasty, and learn about the art of line drawing in Chinese painting of the same period.
